And lol the Devils were already sold last month with their debt being wiped out.
LOL ? Someone bailed out a debt ridden team so that means they are financially stable ? No.....it means that some sucker sunk a couple hundred million into a team from no city that still has all the financial problems it had the day before it was sold. It's a team on the way out that it's "stars" leave to play for mediocre teams and if it survives won't be a playoff team for years to come.
And the Penguins were once in worse shape.[/QUOTE]
The Penguins ? Hmmmmm.......isn't that the team from Pittsburgh that usually has a great regular season but then chokes in the first round of the playoffs to teams with far less talent ?
Regarding the Devils......there's no Crosbys or Malkins on the horizon to attract fans and save them financially and if a Pittsburgh wasn't lucky in the draft they would be gone by now or in another city. There's far too many weak sister, low revenue teams in the NHL......that's why they had to install a salary cap so teams in small market cities can survive.
that's not my point. my point is that you always have people that talk about how they walk in some place all the time and nothing has happened to them as if it demonstrates that the place is safe. the problem is that when it comes to violent crime, it only takes one incident to change everything.
profound statement ... and that theory applies everywhere. if you move to alpine nj and get your house broken into and then robbed in the same week you wouldn't feel safe there no matter what anyone or the crime stats say and the same applies in Newark ...
lets be real Newark has a crime problem but is it anywhere near as bad as depicted, hell no. ACTUALLY BEING IN THE CITY I can tell you ive heard stories about some of my friends getting robbed and it broke my heart but it never happened to be but I always happened in a rougher neighborhood. some areas are rough and some areas are very much like anywhere else ... BUT Newark also offers museams ( with plans to build a few really cool ones soon) a college neighborhood with 50k students, a sports arena for a major team with strong following, an airport, some great parks, great transit, tons of amazing buildings, 2 concert halls that bring in some world renowned talent.. a minor league baseball team... it has things that make it a great city and its not like some places like an east st Louis or a Camden or Irvington which cities that latched on to the bigger city and then fell on hard times and has no attractions or the same draw as the big city its self.
I visited the NJPAC and downtown Newark area a month ago to attend the Zelda concert, and it did not seem very dangerous even at 11:30 PM. I took Route 21 north and route 280 east to catch the turnpike. The areas I passed through did not look shady at all.
However, the areas north of 280 looked very shady and crime ridden. Thankfully, I did not lose my way and end up in that neighborhood late at night.
I believe that every city has nice and dangerous areas. Even in the relatively safe town of New Brunswick, areas along Remsen avenue look quite shady, and are better to be avoided late at night.
Again be smart with your choices. Learn something a lot of other people can't do and do it with some relevancy to your future (ie computers,plumbing/welding/electric apprenticeship)

it can apply anywhere except for the concept that a lot of crime is happening in newark so you have a greater chance of that one time happening to you there.
i hope newark has a bright future ahead of it. its great that there are things going up there that can improve it and maybe things will get better. but for a lot of people who have a higher bar with regard to crime/ugliness levels; its not for them at the present time.

confused. what's that got to do with crime in forest hill?
confused. what's that got to do with crime in forest hill?
The Crime in the North Ward , except a small section of North Broadway is non violent , theft , and break ins....typical Urban crime. Gay people and Artists have stabilized Forest Hill over the last 10 years...
