Ok well here is what happened. I mentioned to him that I wanted to leave the place and it was not working out for me. He said I would be responsible for all of the rent until he could find someone else and he would keep my security deposit if I left owing him money. I said oh OK I will get back to you.

I could care less about the roommates they are in the same boat as me. One had his TV die and bought a new one that mysteriously burned up on the second day. Bad wiring?

I didn't mention anything about calling code enforcement.

The only thing I am trying to do here is 1) get out and not owe the remaining 7 months on my lease 2) get my deposit back or use it up whatever. 3) not die

He's keeping your deposit. Small claims court is in your future if you want it back.

Try and get some free legal advice. I know there are some services that offer this. See if they can't help you. Or it might be worth paying a lawyer a few bucks to draft a letter spelling out all the code issues and why you will be forced to report them if you are not allowed out of the lease.
