On Anderson Cooper, he asked the mayor if they could/would rebuild. The mayor said it's necessary.

Grew up in Cherry Hill for my adolescence years ago; never really knew this area of the state, but it's hard to believe the past year's misfortunes. It' almost like a form of terrorism.

On Facebook they say they are still standing . . . I don't know what shape they are in, though.

APP reported at 7:00 that Sawmill is still standing but has exterior damage. Reports are they stopped the fire at Lincoln Ave and it's still contained so far. No "official" word, but my mom reports that the carousel is gone.

New parts of the boardwalk were burned, too, not just the older section. You can tell from the map on the link someone just posted. Not to mention, they had to rip a trench into the new boardwalk to stop the spreading. They were going to redo that section of the boardwalk this fall/winter regardless of a fire. Funtown Pier was always supposed to be done for next summer, as well.

Oh, and I can assure you that the new part didn't look all beautiful and new compared to the old section. It all looked the same touristy nonsense, just slightly different colored wood on the new part. I'm not a big fan of the boardwalk, but the kids liked going, and almost all of the places that burned were local shopowners that really didn't need another thing to happen to them right now. Not to mention all of the homes and condos that are in danger.

My parents have a beach house in Seaside Park, and my dad was on the beach when it happened, so he saw the smoke start right away. I'm also wondering about the carousel...I don't see how it could have possibly survived since the fire swept straight through there. Hopefully the old one near Casino Pier in Seaside Heights will make it. I was just on it with the kids Labor Day weekend.
I heard the carousel you're talking about is gone, I also heard the Sawmill has now collapsed but who knows for sure? I have a lot of friends and family who live in the area and they've been giving me info but I'm not saying all of it is right.

It rarely is 100% correct but usually somewhat. Thank you for posting the updates. I've been looking to this thread for them and appreciate it.

Just wondering what an ice cream joint would have that's so flammable? Could an electrical fire start & spread so quickly?

Also, many FF were in Wildwood at an annual convention...hmmm.
