I need help, I've heard Paterson is not that great. Is it worth coming from NY to Straight Street in Paterson to save money on rent. We both work in NY, 3 boys go to school in NY as well. I've lived in Jersey before, EZPass and traveling is ok. I'm just concerned about that area. Feedback please.
well they used to have a great drug addict place called Straight and Narrow. It was named for the streets in was on. Hope that tells you something.
It still may be there, so between sex offenders and addicts your in good hands.
It's especially dangerous at night. Visiting during the daytime can be misleading. There are more police patrols near the St. Joseph's Hospital and Straight and Narrow Rehab areas, but it's still rough sledding. Lots of drugs, guns and out-of-towners looking for the "gentlemen's clubs".
You really need to avoid that area at all costs. It is awful. I drive around there for business during daylight hours and I wouldn't be caught dead there at night. No way.

Unless by "living in NY" you mean you currently live in Brownsville or something, it will most certainly not be a good or safe place to live.
Forgetting how bad Paterson may be, the commute from Paterson to NY is far from ideal and considering the safety issues in Paterson, there really is no plus for you. If you want cheap rent with low regard to safety then try Greenville or Bergen in Jersey City. At least you'll be close to NY.
Your 3 boys transferring to Paterson public school ?
them to, or a body guard or home school
Moving to Paterson to live, is a step up from no where, except maybe Camden
