The only difference is the part about requiring full service availability and not allowing for a price difference.

Understood. Makes sense. Someone make this happen.

Although you know people would still complain about the pricing. If you make them the same the self service people will complain about not getting a discount for doing it themselves. If you make self service cheaper full service people will complain that they have to pay more now. Even if everyone was paying the same or less compared to today.

Every state I've been to that has both, they charge much more for full-serve. My Mom paid for full-serve in PA because she is elderly, and paid at least 20 cents more a gallon.

That is one way to look at it. The other is to say the self service got a discount. Its all in your perspective.

someone mentioned here that the additional insurance cost to have people pump makes up for the cost of employees to pump it. if that is true (or partly true) then it seems you would expect that having both would mean you have to pay for the added insurance + the employee to pump. so now you are paying for both instead of one or the other. so that would lead you to the belief that adding self serve will only mean more cost.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume no one on this forum actually knows how much the insurance would actually cost. But you would need less employees to pump assuming you had more than one to begin with.

I'm also not suggesting this should be forced a gas station. Just given them option if they want to have both. If they think only full serve is the way to go more power to them.

Well, I distinctly remember when "cash discount" was implemented. Credit price ROSE, cash didn't drop, so I'd categorize it as a "credit surcharge". I'm pretty sure the same would happen here.

Well the "discounted" price was still 15 cents higher than NJ's. Not much of a discount. IMO it's like instead of saying credit card customers are charged a premium for gas at some stations, cash users are given a discount, but it's not the case, and perspective doesn't change it. It is easy to compare, as all you have to do is look at another station down the street who does not charge extra for cards, and see their price is the same as the cash price at the other station.

The info that the liability insurance costs more than employees was told to me by a gas station owner, I have no reason not to believe him.
