Well I've been out of the area for six years so take this for what it's worth until current folks post. In general, Lawrenceville, Yardley and Morrisville are overall decent places to live. As long as you don't live super-close to Trenton the area is overall lovely. No, you should not need snow tires (unless you have some sort of critical job like an emergency room doctor), the roads are very well maintained.
Also consider Plainsboro, lots of apartment choices, close to shopping and the brand new Princeton/Plainsboro Hospital. Not a bad drive into Ewing, maybe 20-30 minutes depending on where your office is, it is also very safe.

Yardley & Morrisville are in PA, not in NJ.
While they are actually closer to Trenton than many towns in NJ, the fact remains that they are in PA.
Since the OP may not be intimately familiar with local geography, I thought that it was relevant to note this fact.
Thanks, Retriever. I am aware that those areas are in PA. I am looking at moving to either NJ or PA within a 5-25 mile radius of Ewing, NJ which I hope will result in a maximum commute time of 45 minutes each way. Where I live now takes me 45 minutes - 75 minutes one way to travel 20 miles to my present job. One drop of rain on the windshield and the drivers slam on the brakes here. God forbid it should ever snow here. The drivers would probably all stop.

Morrisville Pa. is way too close and too accessible to Trenton (via 3 bridges), the crime rate in Morrisville is significant and they blame it on Trenton.
There are few 3 bedroom rental options in Yardley.
The closest hospitals for those PA towns are in Trenton.
OP, you have several towns you can consider with your commute time desire. Look in Lawrence, Lambertville, Hamilton, Robbinsville, West Windsor.....
I am the OP. Are Lawrence and Lawrenceville Township the same area?
Yes, Lawrenceville is the small historic downtown district of Lawrence Township.
