This is not NJ specific but I didn't know where to put it...there is a transient type guy who does odd jobs for the store downstairs, I have known him for years because he is here a lot. I am going to pay him to remove my window air conditioners (2). It's not a hard job, just basically removing screws. They don't have to be carried anywhere, I leave them below the windows they are in for the winter. I would do it myself, but a couple of years ago when I tried to remove the heavy one in the living room, it ended up falling out of my second-story window, so i am scared to try it again. Does anyone have any suggestions on what would be a fair price to pay him for doing this for me? Thanks!

$50 sound about right, If you can get him when he's there doing other work downstairs. If he has to make a special trip, will be round $100.

Wow, I was thinking less than that, lol. He doesn't have to drive here, he is always hanging around downstairs. Thanks!

Under those circumstances, I think that $20-30 is more appropriate, given the reality that he doesn't have to do any traveling to get there.

And, if your A/C unit is like the one in my bedroom, it should take all of 4 minutes on each A/C to do what is needed. I think that $20 or $30 for less than 10 minutes of non-technical work is a decent amount of payment, but others may differ.

Yes, I think that time is about right. This is more what I was thinking in terms of amount but wasn't sure.

the "job" sounds easy enough for any man aged 16 and up; try asking a neighbor's kid for a favor.
it might cost you a glass of juice and a smile.

Min $20, else $15/hour. My guess is he will be done in 15 minutes.

Edit: Looks like you will be hiring him for the first time, you will be setting an expectation level. You will have to pay at a comparable rate going forward, should you employ him for other work in future.
