I'm thinking of moving to northern New Jersey. I'd like to do some adjunct teaching at community colleges. Are most of the community colleges in northern New Jersey accessible by public transportation, or is that spotty? For example, if one lives in Jersey City or Hoboken, would one be able to get to most of the community colleges in northern New Jersey by public transportation? (Fairly long commuting times, like a couple hours each way, wouldn't necessarily be a problem for me.) Thanks for reading my question.

more than likely not, you'd be able to access the ones in Hudson fairly easily and probably the one in essex as well but beyond that it will probably be very difficult.
Try New Jersey Transit - Home and you can get a handle on bus lines
If you live in Jersey City or Hoboken you would have to take the Path train to get to Newark Penn Station and then take the bus to wherever you want. It all depends on the location of the school. You may have to take a couple of buses but you can get there.
Thanks. I'm looking at the NJ transit link and trying to get a handle on the bus lines. I think it will take me a little while because I'm not familiar with NJ and I don't even have a map right now, as I'm not in the U.S.
Generally speaking, are most towns, except very small towns, in northern New Jersey connected to each other by the bus system? Can you get from any town to another by bus? What's the general frequency like?

no most public transport in northern NJ is geared to commuting to NYC, there is some local bus service but generally it serves the more urban parts of essex, hudson ans southern bergen beyond those areas public transport is spotty at best
nj public transport is not so quick. it would take a couple of hours each way and getting up kind of early in order to get where you need to. if you are planning to reach a couple of CC's, you would be on the bus most of your day
