I'd like to know where all the money goes from collecting the tolls from the George Washington bridge, for that matter...all money collected from all bridges and tunnels in N.J. and N.Y..

Think about it! at $13.00 collected per car and more for trucks in a 24 hour period, WOW!!! how much money is collected? I know theres a small discount for EZ-pass but its still a lot of cash.

I used to audit the company that processes it. All i can say is, you'd be surprised how much overhead and maintenance there is. There's waste everywhere, even a nicely profitable company like the one i work for...people love to scream waste. But it's quite expensive.

If you can get the ezpass and add the car pooling to the ezpass tag and then when you go its going to be 4$ if more than 3 people is there in the car.

Plus, people seem to think that the GWB tolls go (or that they should go) for the GWB upkeep, that the LT tolls go for the LT, etc.

These types of authorities raise money for their projects by selling bonds, and in order to make bonds marketable, they have to show a certain amount of revenue coming in or no one will buy the bonds. Traditionally the airports were the moneymakers, but since 9/11, that's gone down.

As a side note, I've had to go over the bridge a few times recently, and my GPS tells me to get into the E-Z Pass lane, which it pronounces "Ez-pus".

BTW, I was about to make a thread about the GWB toll, driving on it for so many years, I just found out you can cut it down to $5.5 if you have 3 people in your car, something called the CarPool. You must call them to sign up, then must drive through ezpass/cash lanes.

Lol. Maybe that's why the name was dumped five years ago.

My GPS calls the Parkway the "Garden State P K Y S (or N)". I chuckle every time.
