My girlfriend and I are looking to settle down together at some point over the next year or two. She just recently got accepted to Georgian Court University in Lakewood Township and will be transferring there next year. As I understand it (and correct me if I'm wrong) Lakewood Township is a fairly expensive place to live, and neither my girlfriend or I have that much in the way of money.

So, with that in mind, my question is this: What are some cheaper, while still being relatively safe, cities or towns to live in within a 30-45 minute drive of Lakewood Township? What options do we have? Obviously, we're only looking for an apartment at this point; not a house or anything fancy, just a decent little place for two people to live.

(This is my first time on this forum, so I apologize if I'm breaking any protocols. I tried googling a bit, but couldn't find city data specific enough for my needs, so I figured this might be a good place to turn. Thanks in advance.)

Look at Jackson, Manchester too.

When I lived up there, it was cheaper there than to the east side of Route 9.
