I'm sure that the police are considering the possibility that this is a false report, or that there's more to the story.
Google Brick kidnapping, and the only article is a 2012 domestic:

I hope it is because that's a scary situation, especially considering they got away, but I also hate to say I hope it's false because that means someone is sick enough to lie about something like this and waste time and energy.

Well, we don't know yet. There have been some pretty big false reports of abductions.
