I'm curious to know if anyone has any insight to some of the condos located in downtown Newark within walking distance of Penn Station. I recall one on Mulberry Street right across from the Prudential Center.
The access to Manhattan is great, the prices are low, the area is pretty safe (unlike other parts of Newark)--I'm intrigued.
Let me know if you know anything about the buildings in and around Penn Station.
I don't know too much about any specific building. I believe there's an apartment complex there with income restrictions, high enough to keep out low-income tenants, but capped so they don't price out the middle class. There are one or two expensive luxury buildings down there too. Were my employment situation more stable, I'd happily move to the area.
It's not a bad idea, but neighborhood amenities are really lacking. There aren't any supermarkets or many other day-to-day conveniences within an easy walking distance. If you can get by on shopping from bodegas or don't mind driving to Kearny to find a Shop Rite, it wouldn't be too bad.

The Ironbound has 3 supermarkets , no need to go to Kearny.

didnt they announce a wholefoods was coming to that section of Newark?
I say this after being robbed , in down town newark witnessing a woman pooping in a store alcove near a so called safe area, not fond of the many homeless roaming on broad and market, by the way every traffic light has a camera so your sure to get a ticket in the mail as the light flickers to red in (believe me) seconds!
The area around the Rutgers campus looks like there could be potential for some solid gentrification. Anyway, I've heard about Newark being on a "come back" now for ages. It could happen, but who knows when?
