We are looking to relocate out of Philadelphia and was told MIlleville is an up and coming area where you still can get a decent size house to raise a family. WE have 5 children so the neighborhood and schools are very important. The reason we are moving from Philly is because of these issues and I don't wan't to find myself starting over is the same situation. Can anyone give me some opinions on there thoughts about family living in Milleville or recommend some areas trying to get as close as possible to the Jersey shore (thats where my family lives) Thanks!

Well, I wouldn't send my kids to Millville's schools, but I have several friends who do and they're just fine with it.

There are definitely parts of the town you don't want to go to. Ever.

One good thing about Millville is that you're about 30 mins away from Ocean City, on a good day with no traffic.

Check the city data detailed profile. It reports 8 murders last year that seems awfully high for a small town and 16 rapes last year. That would be enough for me to not want to move there if I had a choice. All the crime categories are very high. Check it out on your own and 2 o'clock in the afternoon in December doesn't reflect 10:30 at night in the middle of the summer. Good luck either way just do your homework.

how much are you looking to spend and how big of a house do you want?

There are better areas that are around Millville that are still affordable.

I'm looking to spend under $300k. I would like to be closer to Ocean City and Brigatine that's where my family is but we are having no luck finding a place big enough for our price range we definately need a yard.

I know 8 murders isn't good especially from a small town but I'm coming from Philadelphia the murder capital of the world or close to it. So I don't really know what a "good" number is.

I appreciate everybody's responses and if you know anywhere that you can recommend thats great because being from Philadelphia I don't know the names of all the towns to look for houses. I might be missing on a great oppurtunity.
Other areas we have looked are galloway and Absecon any word on those places I'd like to hear also.

Thanks everyone again it's very helpful!

Williamstown and Winslow/Blue Anchor are still pretty affordable. You should be able to get something decent for around 300k and you will be close to O/C and Brigantine as well as Philly.

So in bad areas do you mean a mostly minority town?

I live in Millville. I have my whole life and I love it. Sure, you have your "bad areas" but lets be realistic, where doesn't!? It is a little pricey compared to some surrounding areas, but it's nice. Especially on the outskirts, and now they're trying to make it an arts district, which I myself must admit think is a joke considering the area they put it in... but it's nice that they're trying. They're taking a "small town" and trying to make it something big. But it works I guess for the people moving here...
