We vacationed in Atlantic City at the Harrahs Resort in 2008- Had a great time.

We are planning a short Summer 2014 vacation in NJ; Atlantic City or Ocean Beach or Wildwood.

How recovered are these areas from Sandy? Any advice appreciated, including hotels/Beaches/Boardwalk in great condition.

Thank You!

Those areas in southern NJ did not have nearly as much damage as central and north Jersey. All towns in Atlantic and Cape May counties were open and ready for business in time for last summer, you won't have any problems.

Thank you all- I love NJ! Can't wait to spend $$ there.

Do you recommend any hotels/suites in each town for our family?

Thanks!-so sick of winter!

Well, I don't have kids, but if were to stay in AC, I'd pick the Revel Atlantic City Hotels | Resorts | Accommodations | Revel Casino Hotel | Revel in a heartbeat (although it's $$$). IMO, it's the only hotel in AC that can legitimately call itself a "resort", complete with private beach, surfing lessons, 8 private pools, and a magnificent rooftop deck with fire pits and rocking chairs overlooking the boards. In Wildwood, this is my absolute favorite hotel Caribbean Motel - A Historic Doo Wop Landmark in Wildwood Crest, NJ!, but it's because I love the retro vibe (it's on the National Register of Historic Places) It sells out for the year very early, though. In Ocean City, Beach Club http://www.beachclubhotel.com/ is my favorite hotel on the beach, but there are plenty of options to rent a home or condo for a week or 2, also. http://www.bergerrealty.com/pages/ne...=32&ryear=2013

Those 3 towns are very different from each other. I think Ocean City is the best for a family, especially if your kids are younger. The hotels in Ocean City and Wildwood aren't as nice as Atlantic City (especially Harrah's), but there are also a ton of weekly house rentals. All 3 towns are a short drive from one another, so I'm not sure you need to do more than a day trip if you plan to go to more than one.

The OP may have meant Ocean City but asked about Ocean Beach
The Ocean Beach area (by Lavalette) will be very bad this summer.
The NJT has torn up route 35 from Pt Pleasant to Seaside.
Only the shoulder is open for traffic
Some areas are 1 lane alternating both ways. For 4 min traffic goes North-then stopped, then for 4 min traffic goes South
Some side roads are closed entirely

Hope they open it up for the summer, but doubtful.
If the roadwork is not cleaned up, this area will be killed, and road closeures will do far more damage to local businesses and landlords than Sandy ever did.

Did you decide to come to NJ because you saw our esteemed Governor & his family in those tourist ads last summer?

I lived in Philly for a year-hated it!
The only thing I "knew" about NJ was big haired brunettes with scary accents, too much animal print, etc...

We drove from Philly to the shore and NJ seemed so peaceful, quiet, lovely! Forests and sheep farms and the sand.

I've been thru Northern NY facing NJ-Blech-not for me..

My tourist $$ will help small and large businesses, not the gov'r directly Thats great for everybody.

If you base a whole state on its current gov'r, too bad for you. I gotta deal with Jerry Brown. Twice! With Ahnold in between. Blech!
