My husband and I, along with our two boys (ages 9 & 12) and 50 pounddog, are re-locating to NJ and we really need some advice. Thank you very much!

--Where are you coming from?
Carlisle, PA

--Why are you moving?
So that I am able to resume my acting career. To this end, my husband found a position in his company's Princeton office.

--Where will you be working ?
My husband needs to be in Princeton office about three days a week (approx 9-5 hours) ; he prefers to drive.

I will primarily need to be in Midtown & Chelsea where I plan to improvise a couple of nights per week as well as audition/work during the day. It is an erratic schedule and I want to use public transportation.

--Will you buy or rent?
Renting for first year.

--What is your budget ?
About $2,000 month

--What kind of place are you looking for?
In a perfect world we would live in a low-maintenance place - maybe a townhouse or a rental home with maintenance provided?...frankly, it would take an apartment with a big roof garden/space for my husband to even consider it.

within an artistic & safe, walking community with people who value diversity, culture & education.
This perfect world would be located in between Princeton & NYC so that my husband & I have fairly equal commutes (he in a car, me on a train or bus).

--Will anyone (spouse, children, pets) be moving with you ?
Me, my spouse and 2 kids & a 50 pound dog

--Do you need/want good public schools?
yes or a VERY affordable and excellent private school

--Briefly describe the kind of neighborhood you'd like to live in
A safe, walking community with people who value diversity, culture & education. Good Parks/public spaces with kids around.

Important: This dream world is located in between Princeton & NYC so that my husband & I have fairly equal commutes (he in a car, me on a train or bus)....and, don't laugh, near/on the water would be nice?..stop laughing.

List three things that are important to you in order of importance.

1) excellent schools
2) easy commute to Princeton AND to Penn Station
3) Artistic, diverse walking community

Thank you very much for any light you can shine on our quest.

Right off the bat, I say Highland Park fits the bill. Good schools, safe town, small walkable downtown community, and walking distance to the train station in NB. Though I will say 2k a month is tight on housing. (do-able, but you will not get anything fancy)

Default Did you find the right place?

I am in a similar position now, with my wife working in Princeton and me working in NYC.

I am looking for a nice town between NYC and Princeton and would appreciate any help with this.

Thanks,
Ashok
