Although I've never heard of this officer and don't frequent Long Branch, NJ that often, I am intrigued by this "very unfortunate encounter".

Can you give any details as to what happened?

If she acted inappropriately (helps to have witnesses as well), then you can and should file a complaint with the Long Branch PD.

Most cops are fair and on the level, but you've definitely got some bad apples out there who shouldn't be wearing a badge.

Let us know the scoop...

Even if you have it on video, and the cops beat the holy living crap out of you internal affairs will give them a pass. At least in Bloomfield.

Aren't most encounters with police officers "unfortunate"? There would have to be proof that she was doing more than just giving you a bad attitude. Filing a complaint is a serious thing. It could stay on her record forever and significantly impact her career.

Nothing ever comes of those complaints except that maybe the complainant is target for retribution:

This article just says that the attorney general's office largely ignores the complaints. There are other ways it could affect the officer (e.g. being passed up for a promotion). You may be right that the complaints don't matter at all, but I doubt it.

Two things; I hope your last name isn't "Cannon" and that officer Hollis-Valdes googles her name and gets a City-Data link.

"...The undercover investigation was conducted using an Hispanic Ocean Township police officer who went undercover, pretended to speak only Spanish, and hung around in the known drug distribution areas

While Hayes is facing criminal charges for his conduct, two other city police officers, Heather Hollis-Valdes and Sam Yoo, have been suspended with pay following an incident in which they approached the car occupied by the undercover officer and Hollis-Valdes repeatedly struck the man.

Yoo was not implicated in that assault; however, he witnessed the attack and did nothing to restrain Hollis-Valdes.

Hollis-Valdes and Yoo are currently suspended with pay, according to police officials, and their course of conduct is being reviewed."

Wow...she seems like a bad apple. Also, note that she committed a crime against a fellow officer but was suspended with pay. Gotta love it.

MissCannon, whatever your bad experience was you should file a complaint.
