There are still nice parts..the way over priced gentrified downtown area of course.
Still some places in the heights but for the most part it's not a safe city...don't even think about beyond the BLVD...like Bergen Ave
If you are female don't wander about after dark by yourself, don't carry a lot of cash, keep the jewelry well hidden
Hi I've lived in JC for 5 years now mostly in downtown (wayne st).

I would add to what Kate said. that area in the summer time has a very high crime rate. Just down the block are the Duncan Projects, shootings, stabbings, drugs you name it its there. They are not safe as I have been in them a couple of hundred times. You are close to Lincoln Park which is nice but I wouldn't venture in there to much at night time. There is a Pathmark on Rt.440 but you will need a car or take a bus to get there. Fairmount is OK but stay away from walking on Duncan to much. Lots of gang activity. Keep your head up, be vigilant and good luck. PM if you want I could give more details that I wouldn't like to bring on a open forum.
Hi. I know some people that live in the Lincoln Park area that could also give you an honest opinion. I agree with what everyone has stated about the area near Duncan projects. If you're looking at Duncan between Kennedy and Bergen that's a decent block. PM me and I'll help you out with as much information as I can.

Necro, The projects are three small blocks from West Side Avenue and believe me they are small as the overflow from the projects walk back and forth on Duncan Avenue as the projects are at the end of Duncan. There are many good people that live there and there are many not to good people living there. Crime is rampant. Lincoln Park is maybe 700 feet west of Duncan and West Side Avenue
