The Car Dealers really have a stronghold on us. an ancient law that existed when business practices were very different is the reason why car dealerships exist. it's time for that to die. but they are gonna fight.
The lobby for Car Dealers has always been strong. Every congressional district pretty much has at least one car dealership in it, if not multiple. So they are important constituents. If they are louder than the general population on this particular issue, then they win. It's interesting to look at the history of the law. Manufacturers did used to abuse dealerships, so protection made sense at one point. A dealership truly used to serve the customer. Now, a dealership and manufacturer are often on equal footing, so these laws are far less relevant today than they were decades ago.
if the MVC changes this, Tesla will fight it and most likely win.
I've read elsewhere, that while this is inconvenient, most buyers are ok with this. They are banned in Texas as well. And the folks that buy them there fully understand they can not technically "buy" them in Texas.
I'm all for innovation shaking up an industry. We need someone to disrupt BIG CABLE next. I despise cable companies.

its funny because ive heard people say that the way people buy cars with the haggling is how they want to. I think that's totally wrong and conveniently ignores reality. people accept it because its the way it is. that doesn't mean they want it or that they are really ok with it.

of course they would love to go to a tesla lot and drive one off, but from what I have read the way it works in texas....

You can either sign paperwork electronically or fly to state where sales are legal to get financing

TSLA Fedex overnight registration info, you take to DMV and finish paperwork
So in all honestly, it really is not that big of a deal. Its not like TSLA's can be spotted the same day as a camry at a toyota dealer.

I believe I misunderstood your original statement. yeah, that process sounds fine to me. however, it is a big deal that they need to work around the system for no reason.

agreed. Thats why politics in this country stink. The people we "vote" in have their pockets lined by groups with specific interests.
Tesla sells a grand total of 2 different cars. While they are a small company with that only has 2 models, they should be able to use the competitive advantage they have and open storefront dealerships, run by themselves.
