I moved to NYC recently and plan to buy a house/condo in NJ which is close to Midtown, Manhattan as I work there. I have been looking for condos/houses for past few days, however, I get little confused from prices around North Bergen area. That are is just 40-45 min away from Midtown, Manhattan but still very cheap compared to areas like Hoboken, JC etc. Please let me know if it is a safe area, is there any valid reason of low prices or I am being unnecessarily skeptical?
Also, please suggest other decent/safe areas with good schooling and neighborhood in NJ close to Midtown-Time Square (50 min max by public transport). I know Hoboken, North Bergen, JC, Weehawken etc. I want to buy 2 bedroom condo/house max with budget of 450k.
Lived around there and never thought much of the town. I think the main problem is that even though the name is North Bergen, it is NOT in Bergen county, and it is actually south of Bergen. But there are a ton of people in your boat, and there must be a reason for the houses there selling for less then other places (maybe it is just because Rt 1 sucks there)
