Ugh...here goes the story of a dumb mistake. I signed a lease last year whereby the 12th month was free. Of course, if the lease was from May 1st to April 30th, then the 12th month is April. For some reason in my head I had the month May as the free month. So last month I got a bill from the management for April's rent and like an idiot I paid it. So when I got the bill this month I realized I screwed up and paid. I am going to call tomorrow and just say, "OK, you accidentally billed me and I accidentally paid (Who does that?!), so now I just owe you the rent increase portion". Can anyone think of a reason why I will get screwed? It's got me worrying here. I'm so mad at myself!!!

Are there any stipulations about the free rent? Do you have to present some sort of a "coupon" for it? Or is it just mentioned in your lease that the twelfth month is free?

There is a rider at the end of the lease simply stating that the month of April is free. Thanks for responding by the way!

I think you should bring it to their attention, then, if it's in the lease. If it's in there, then I'm not sure why they sent you the bill, unless they just wanted to see if they can get away with it. If you can go to a management office, do that (with the lease) and get anything they say in writing. Otherwise, write a letter and make a copy of the lease and send it via certified mail...
