Hello,We just bought a house in "Princeton Walk". I work at Jersey City and wanted to know what would be the best option for commuting. Parking in the train stations has a long wait so wanted to know if there are any Bus facilities to any of the train stations (Princeton Jn/Jersey Ave/New Brunswick) or directly to Newark or Jersey City.
Thanks in advance.

Siar, I assume you bought in "Princeton Walk" in the township of south brunswick. while you are waiting for daily parking permit, you can have a few bus alternatives:
1) take suburban transit on route 27 to new brunswick and make a switch to train from there;
2) drive to liberty state park parking lot and take a short light rail to JC
3) drive to east brunswick park and ride (behind sams club) and take NJ transit bus to JC

lin67, I'm also interested in Princeton-Jersey City commuting. When you mention option 2) driving to liberty state park, how long can it take considering traffic at rush hours? Actually i'm interested in doing reverse commuting, that is JC to Princeton, is this any better for driving time?
Thanks

Default Transit---??

Princeton, NJ Train Station Transportation to and from Princeton is easy. NJ Transit buses, and trains are easily accessible from the Princeton University NJ Train Station. The "Dinky" train from the Princeton U Train station takes passengers daily (7 minute ride) to the Princeton Junction train station which can take commuters to New York City Penn Station or Philadelphia. Schedules and prices vary depending on whether you are traveling during the week (peak or non peak), weekends or on holidays.
You can always count that there will be a Princeton Junction NJ Transit train or Amtrak train shortly upon arrival into the train station from the "Dinky".
It is easier to plan to park in Princeton vs parking at Princeton Jct because you would have to get to the Princeton Junction train station by 6:30-7:00 am to get daily parking. There is currently a 3 year wait for Monthly Princeton Junction, NJ parking.
For a schedule go to Greater Mercer Transportation Management Association (TMA)
Train Schedules
Fare options
Estimated Basic monthly expense (2007) these rates are only estimates and could go up:
Princeton U monthly parking: $60
Princeton to Princeton Junction to NYC Penn Station Weekly Fare: $92
Princeton to Princeton Junction to NYC Penn Station Monthly Fare: $301
There is Monthly Parking provided as a Princeton University service. Go to Map of Princeton, NJ and parking

siar, i am not sure. if you can walk to route 27 from your development, you may catch bus from princeton to nyc. but you have to switch to train in new brunswick.

scf, i believe it will have much lighter traffic driving from JC to Princeton. Sometimes I saw heavy traffic before hitting turnpike other direction due to accident when i was driving to JC. If your job is inside princeton township, you will hit local traffic around route 1 after you get out of turnpike. anyway, it is not easy by driving from JC to Princeton in rush hours.
