Let's all face it. Trenton is a war zone. Why do we have a war zone as a capital? I'd support if our capital was New Brunswick or Edison. A place where you can actually enter without fear.
If the state government wasn't in Trenton, what reason would it have to exist? If you moved the government we'd have TWO Camdens. (unless you moved the government to Camden)
Do either of these posts make any sense? Trenton is a war zone because it's a decaying Northeastern post industrial urban center that has suffered from a loss of manufacturing jobs, white flight, race riots, corruption, and suburbanization, just like Newark, Paterson, Camden, and a host of other small cities in the Northeast. Albany, Harrisburg, Hartford, and Wilmington aren't exactly paradise either-hell, New Brunswick has plenty of problems. I guess Edison does too, but I'd be more afraid of the police there than the criminals

The 20,000 state workers who go there five days a week don't seem to mind. I take you've never even been within 50 miles of Trenton. Just like anywhere else there are safe places and not so safe places. I used to have to go to the Statehouse/train station once or twice a week for work and never had an issue. Now, would I go walking down Stuyvesant Avenue after dark? Of course not, but I doubt you even know where any of the locations I mentioned are. If you're afraid, just stay away-pretty simple.

Why does it matter? State capitols have zero importance beyond where government workers are based, many are not in good cities or areas. It's what props up Trenton to an extent.
New Brunswick and Edison do not need more jobs or traffic from thousands of workers being there, and state government is one of the few institutions for whom it's advantageous to be in Trenton. Low cost of office space, geographically central location to the state as a whole. For private business, Trenton is generally too far from NYC or Philadelphia to be attractive.
First off lets be real. The cost to move the capital would be way to large to move but really what other larger NJ city would be that much more desireable.
The Capital area of Trenton isnt all that bad and some parts of trenton are decent to good.
Also many other Capital are pretty crappy as well in neighboring states. Annapolis may be the outlier
