Many sites rank schools from 1-10. Grammar schools in lawrence rank from very low near trenton to higher in the area you are looking. The middle school is ranked at a 5. The high school is a 6. That's compared to west Windsor, Princeton and hopewell that are ranked 8-10 through all school levels. That's the big difference you're paying for. That might change though because the state is forcing hopewell to build projects and will probably do the same with WW.
Is that imminent within the next few years? Will this significantly affect Hopewell's demographics/socioeconomics and school system?
Not sure what "projects" this poster is referencing. If it is Project Freedom which recently opened in Pennington, it will have little impact on the demographics of the town or the schools.
Project Freedom is a not for profit organization that provides affordable housing for disabled individuals.
There are Project Freedom facilities established in Robbinsville, Lawrence, Hamilton and Trenton. They are well supported.

What kind of projects are we talking about? If they bring in black/Latino people, it will affect Hopewell significantly. It's the least diverse area in the county, and the residents aggressively try to keep it that way.
Doesn't every town in NJ have to have a section of Low Income affordable housing? Perhaps that is what MJJersey is referring to?
I drove through Hopewell/Pennington yesterday. Liked the area and it seemed like many strip malls were being updated to look nice (new brick etc). But once I got over to Middle School/ HS felt like I was in the middle of nowhere. Then drove to Morris/Caroline drive "Hopewell Hunt" neighborhood. Many houses for sale. Looked beautiful on listings, but the neighborhood looked shabby for houses that nice (so many cars on street, lawns not maintained, felt crowded for as big as the properties are). Does anyone have insight on that neighborhood and/or other options in the $800-1.1M range with pool? Insights on schools would be great too (and which is better option, Princeton Regional or Hopewell Valley Central for HS?).

I'd go with Princeton or West Windsor-Plainsboro for high schools.

Yes, "affordable housing." Hopewell is a pretty big area and can give you that middle of nowhere feeling, but I'm from Sussex County so I wouldn't call it the middle of nowhere. With your price range I think West Windsor is a good place to look. The schools are good but very competitive. Personally, I think a kid is better off doing very well in a good school than doing average in a great school.
BTW, for the record: Just because it's "affordable housing", it doesn't mean it's "criminal element".
Thank you!
