When I read about the apparent indifference of bystanders to this assault, it immediately brought back memories of Kitty Genovese.
While our society has probably degenerated in many ways over the past 50 years, the Kitty Genovese incident is a perfect illustration of how The Good Old Days were...not necessarily so good.
Some won't intervene because they're afraid of being brought up on charges. Others fear recrimination from the assailant's friends and family.

Just saw this on local 11PM news and am shocked and disgusted!
That a group of men both young and old would stand there and watch a young mother get a beat down in front of her own child show just how low this country has sank. The two year old son who tried to protect his mother had a larger pair than any of the other males standing around.
