I'm planning a trip to AC this summer, and want to head to NYC for a night. We're are flying into AC, so we won't have a car unless we rent one. What would be the best way to get to NYC on a Thursday morning, and then back to AC the next morning? Bus? Rent a car?
Why is this? I could be more flexible with the schedule if need be. We haven't been to NYC is years, so it would be nice to go for a day, have a nice dinner, see a show, and head back to AC the next morning. But I'm flexible with the timeframe.
One thing to keep in mind, Parking in NYC can be expensive.
Most of the Hotels in AC have car rental's available at there locations.
Not sure the Casino bus "Packages" work in reverse There goal is to get you there, not take you away to NYC and bring you back to AC. So you might be picking up a bus at the AC bus station.
Buses from AC to NYC are unreliable. You have to get to the bus stop like an hour or earlier in order to get a seat..you are not guaranteed a seat, it's first come, first served. The buses also tend to be late/delayed and they don't run 24/7.
Renting a car gives you the most freedom and flexibility in time frame in choosing when you want to leave/arrive.
And yeah, like the previous post said, quality and caliber of your fellow bus riders and driver may vary. Usually for the worse.
PS - Just came across a luxuary bus line that might work if you're set on taking the bus. The Hampton Luxuary Liner..its a bus but looks to be much more comfy and posh than the regular buses. There's flatscreen TVs, leather seats, WIFI, snacks, etc. Price isnt too bad either:
There also is or used to be train service which runs from AC to Philly then to NYC.
Having a car in NYC is nice when you want to leave but a royal PITA all other times.
Tolls just to cross the river to NYC are about $13 then often you pay about $40 to park.
Also NJ tolls on Rt 444, (the GSP) and possibly the NJ ThornPick (TurnPike).
You could also park at a train or PATH station in NJ and take that in.
Check NJ transit<dot>com and see what the trains look like.
Might be Chinatown buses also. They are royally cheap.

If you want to waste 3 or more hours take the train. If you are seriously trying to get from AC to NYC 2 words GREYHOUND OR ACADEMY done!!! If your desperate for a seat NJT 319 Bus take what leaves first keep it simple stupid. KISS. Combined frequency of many buses several departures. Megabus has the lowest round trip fares aka academy bus the train is NOT an option too slow. End of discussion.

You can't be serious the ACES train was eliminated years ago and it was useless. There is no longer direct train service from NYC to Atlantic city and for good reason.

The NY Time Out magazine says it travels to AC but their website doesn't have the option. May want to check it out tho..
The buses do run 24/7 try again. Most are very fast.
