I see a lot of the post about the Greenville section of Jersey City are a couple of years old..like 2008 and 2012, but how is the area today? Is it any better now in 2014?

As someone who lives nearby (under a mile from JC/Greenville border) I can say it isn't a place you'd want to live in and appreciable change isn't exactly hitting the area. While downtown JC keeps improving and getting more expensive, and Journal Square begins to get some investment, none of this has hit Greenville. If you want to live in an affordable part of JC then stick to the Heights.

Dude, have you seen the news over the last months or so of the shootings and killings in that area? Google Officer Santiago... and other crime news from that weekend. Pretty scary stuff... even if the area has gotten better, it's nowhere near where it should be to be considered "safe."

Why do people say that? The heights aren't cheap at all.

Define not cheap then. There are 2 bedrooms in the 1200 range per month. I know the luxury buildings that are right next to Hoboken's lightrails are expensive but for the most part it's affordable. Compared to Downtown JC, Hoboken, Weehawken, and other prime areas of Hudson County it is cheap.

There are parks, a pool, city views, a farmers market, and some shops on Central Ave. It's a huge upgrade over Greenville for not that much more money.

Greenville is the one area of JC that hasn't gotten better.

JC hasn't had a good year as far as crime goes. There's been horrific stuff in the news not only in greenville but downtown & the heights too.
