Mightqueen801..that's a great idea. I think I will try that too.

As a last resort, do you guys think its worth going through a realtor to find a short term lease? Do they even do that? What would their fee be approx?
I think your best bet is to scour CL and the like for a sublet; that's probably your best bet for staying within your budget. Either that, or renting a bedroom in a share situation where someone has just moved out (like someone moving in with their significant other or the like).

You can try a realtor but it's probably not worth it, especially not for the fee they would charge (and I say that as a broker, myself). They're not generally going to have any more access to sublets than you would, and anything being advertised as short-term will be on the MLS, which you can search yourself.

Try Avalon apartments...we did a month to month lease there when we were waiting to close on a house. There are different locations throughout NJ - the further ones are cheaper but could get close to your $1400.

Thanks everyone for your great suggestions. I'm going to look into all those leads. Hopefully I can find something short term. If not, I guess I can always roll the dice and go for the standard 1-year lease and try to find a subletter if I need to move before the term is up..
