As a last resort, do you guys think its worth going through a realtor to find a short term lease? Do they even do that? What would their fee be approx?

I think your best bet is to scour CL and the like for a sublet; that's probably your best bet for staying within your budget. Either that, or renting a bedroom in a share situation where someone has just moved out (like someone moving in with their significant other or the like).
You can try a realtor but it's probably not worth it, especially not for the fee they would charge (and I say that as a broker, myself). They're not generally going to have any more access to sublets than you would, and anything being advertised as short-term will be on the MLS, which you can search yourself.
