I can't believe I'm agreeing with the original poster, but he's right. The best outcome I can see for closed hotels is to convert them into Condo units. There really isn't enough gamblers to support so many casino's. I say six casinos is the most Atlantic City can reasonably support.

While legalized brothels would help, I'm not sure how much positive impact legalized prostitution would be for the city. Nevada has legalized prostitution, and it only generates 50 million dollars a year, compare that to statewide gambling total of 22 billion, prostitution is small potato's. I guess given Atlantic City's location to two major metropolitan areas and an aggressive marketing campaign legalized brothels could benefit Atlantic City.

Do we really need disgusting fat old men paying for hoochee from brainless pathetic women? With NJ offering a state "blessing" in return for a rake? This is a solution to the departure of gambling from Atlantic City? This is a solution to anything? We're better off letting it slide into the Atlantic.

I am actually curious, how are the casinos in PA, Conn, and NYC like Empire gaming even doing? I have been to the ones in Conn, resorts and empire here in NYC, and really they are kind of boring. Yeh, it has people, but no table games, and the experience is kinda cheap, not too exciting. The Conn Casinos are well, just out there by themselves. Nothing going on really.

AC is simply a better destination. I would rather take that longer drive down the Jersey shore to AC than that shorter yet still long drive to Mohegan Sun, and Foxwoods. At least I feel better because I am going to a beach instead of dull forest in Connecticut. The air is better. You get the ocean breeze.

They need to do more with the town to make an even better destination. I wonder what it would be now, if somehow AC attracted those Casino Investors for the PA and Conn casinos to put money into AC instead building stand alone casinos elsewhere.

Then we have do something different with it. Make it high end prostitution, not just the regular, addict street hookers you see in DR, Mex, or Thailand.

1. Bring back the joker or whatever the train from Manhattan-to-Trenton-to-Philadelphia-to-Atlantic City train was called.

2. Do whatever it takes to get big chains involved in AC. It's criminal that they've had MGM owning half of Borgata for all this time, and Borgata is the #1 casino on the East Coast, yet Borgata and MGM have nothing to do with each-other in terms of membership benefits and whatnot. MGM should have their own casino... and Steve Wynn should be in Atlantic City, now that Donald Trump couldn't care less about the casino business.

3. Bring minor league sports to Atlantic City. Boardwalk Hall has proven itself good enough for minor league hockey in the past, and the (Albany) Devils games there always do well in attendance. The NJ Devils are in bed with casinos, so maybe they can have casinos give away tickets or something.

4. That mall over by Caesar's is very nice, but half the stores are vacant.

5. Someone big needs to buy Revel, whether it's Caesar's, MGM, or whoever. With the amount of money invested in that project, if it stays vacant for a year or more, it's going to kill the whole "let's save Atlantic City" project that Christie and the Democrats have been cooperating on.

6. The city (and the casinos) is pretty dead after like 2am (not as bad on weekends, but still), which goes contrary to the whole Las Vegas-lite concept of being a town that's up all night and has gambling and liquor available 24/7. How is it that there are like, 8 Starbucks in AC and none of them are open at 4am? I was in AC yesterday, as I go every other month or so, and there was practically nothing open at 5AM.

7. The state needs to do a better job in negotiating with getting more flights to and from ACY, and making sure the price is cheap enough that people are willing to fly there. Having to pay for checked bags and use an inferior airline at an inconvenient time negates the price being lower than at Newark or Philly.

8. The state cannot take the federal government's "no" for an answer, and needs to legalize sports betting in AC. AC also needs more/better sports bars.

9. AC needs to make a deal with UFC to get them to come back more often. MMA made its bones in Atlantic City, which is why all UFC events use the New Jersey rules, yet UFC holds most of its events in Las Vegas now, even though LV is traditionally boxing territory.

10. AC needs to make a deal with WWE to get them to come back more often. They held two WrestleMania's in Atlantic City, and now the town only gets house shows (non-televised cards) and sometimes loses house shows to nearby places like Wildwood. That's crazy.

Atlantic City used to be considered the inferior East Coast version of Las Vegas, but now it's more of a third-rate or fourth-rate Las Vegas in a world where everyone can go to a casino an hour or so from their house. If it's going to survive, it's going to take a lot of work and a lot of money, and a lot of these smaller casinos are going to have to be shut down AND REPLACED WITH SOMETHING, not just another vacant lot, but I think it can be done. I just doubt it will.

Level it and restore it to look like it did 300 years ago and call it Island Beach State Park South. The revenue from day trippers and beach buggy permit buyers would probably exceed what the rathole casinos are pulling in now.

This.

I completely agree. AC should not be permitted to privatize gains and socialize losses.

We vacation in Margate and I love AC and I'm not a gambler. I enjoyed concerts, restaurants, shopping and the boardwalk this summer and kept thinking what a shame it was that it was so little understood....

* Build a monorail system that connects all the casinos to each other so that people could visit them all without having to drive and park or go outside to get to them. Atlantic City is cold in the Winter. This might also tempt folks to visit casinos they haven't been to.

* Always have $5 tables open. I don't get why they would rather have a bunch of dealers standing around empty $25 tables when they would be filled with people losing their money a little more slowly if they had $5 tables.
