Yeah man thats almost the complete other side of town. Take you longer to walk from 3rd to 8th than from 33rd at Penn station to 42nd&8th. Sounds weird but its true.
You can always drive to Perth Amboy and take the Ferry across the river.
There's no traffic and the Parkway South is a breeze in the morning.
Other than that . . .
You're probably better off leaving things as it. I don't see a better way.
Even if you take a cheaper route and possibly drive to Newark and hop on a train, you'd still have to deal with the unpredictable Parkway or Turnpike traffic - and parking in Newark isn't cheap.
You can drive to Jersey City, park at the Liberty Park Light rail, then take the path from Pavonia Newport to 33rd St, then take a subway to 42 nd. You'll save money, but commuting will not be fun
There are Suburban Transit buses that run out of the Tower Center in East Brunswick (Rte 18). Some buses go directly to Port Authority, but there is a really good schedule for cross-town buses too. They go cross-town via 42nd street, stopping at every avenue from 7th to 3rd. Cost is $320 a month
