Can anyone help me out with transportation options from Edison, NJ to NYC.

Currently, i see a monthly pass on NJ Transit at $279 plus my office is in grand central area so I would have need another $80 per month for MTA. thats $379 per month!! geez

Are there cheaper options? Bus routes to the Grand Cnetral area? anything?

thanks!

I work at 42nd and Third Avenue and most of my colleagues who live in NJ or Long Island (also requiring taking a train to Penn Station) walk to work from the train. We walk a LOT in NY. And quickly, too.

So that's $4,500 to commute to NYC. You could always try to find that type of work in Edison and save the commuting costs.

Maybe the company you work for is enrolled in the Premiun Transit Check program and you can get your transportation costs deducted pre-tax from your paycheck.

Thats exactly where i'm at, 42nd & Third.

I don't mind walking but it's horrible during the dead of winter or when i'm working really late and just want to get my butt home.

NYC pay rate is not going to be matched anywhere in NJ for the same job. Its just not. My wife commutes from Edison (metropark) to X2 (penn station and just walks the 10 blocks) Her company offers the TRanist Check program and it saves a few bucks but its just damn expensive. Esp because NJ transit KNOWS there are a ton of commuters from this area.

She has been offered jobs closer to home but for 20k less or for the same money but for much more responsibility/work hours/etc. Shes already working 60hrs week so MORE time away from home is not an option right now. I dont know about you guys, but 20k goes a LONG way even with the 4-5k commuting expenses. I've even considered changing jobs to work in the city but regrettably IT is not as in damand as it once was.

Bus from Port Authority on Route 18 in East Brunswick? Not sure of the exact rates/terms but maybe its something you can look into. New York Port Authority is right around 42nd and 3rd too, I believe.
