When it comes to 4x4s I'm a Toyota guy through and through:
Plus Jeep guys seem to be all over that "Zombie" stuff which is dumb. Regardless-good move. I was actually tempted to do this the other day when a Dodge Charger was taking up nearly three spaces as Weis Market in Flanders on 206.

That Jeep owner made just one mistake.
He should have parked...just a bit closer...so that Mr. Corvette would have had to enter via the passenger door and then climb over the center console.
Jeep vs Toyota has been well documented so I will not argue it.
By the way, for someone who hates jeeps, you spend a lot of time advising poor kids not to do diesel swaps. That kid has no idea what he's in for, or really at this point he does but does not care.

LOL...guilty as charged. I hang out over there because it's really the only place online where anybody discusses off-roading in NJ these days. There used to be a site called The-Jersey-Devil but it's been dead for years. The guys on that particular Jeep forum seem to be more North Jersey based too, which is more interesting to me because it's a solid two hour ride for me to get down to Wharton. I've been exploring Stokes/the DWG for a while now. Anyway, they actually wheel their junk for the most part, so I respect that. The diesel swap guy, I dunno. I just don't see how anyone would think they could get away with that here. The only place more strict than NJ on that stuff is California, and that's saying something.
The Jeep guys I despise are the ones who go out and buy a brand new JK (or whatever model it is now), put a $1000 lift on it, $2000 worth of tires, all kinds of armor, a winch, etc...and the thing is spotless and gleaming all of the time. You see my truck in that picture-the entire passenger side is banged up from trying to fit it down trails that were just a hair too narrow. The bumper is tweaked from having to back out of a narrow pass through two rocks (it got hung up on one), etc... The point is, if you're really four wheeling, your truck isn't going to look like it just rolled out of the dealership all it's life. For me it's more a means to an end-I use my truck for hunting, hauling out firewood, etc...and I beat on it, but its never let me down.
Real Jeep owners have a vehicle they drive everyday, with their beater Jeep(s) for four-wheeling, and it's usually a YJ or earlier, not one of those Cherokees, nor the newer mini-Hummer SUVs with four doors that have the Jeep name on them.

The late 90s/early 2000's Grand Cherokee was pretty remarkable with Quadra-Drive. You still see a lot of these out on the road in NJ, even out here in LA.
I like to compare Jeeps with Saabs (I own a Saab, my Dad has a Jeep.) You take care of them, they can run for a VERY long time. But be prepared for the unexpected and have some kind of preventative MX plan.
You don't want to take care of one, buy a Toyota.
