Hi Friends,

I am living in Avenel and use NJTransit (Rahway) to commute to my office in Exchange place (I take PATH from PENN Station). Now my wife has got a new job in Florham Park and I am not sure how to plan our commute. Vanpool option is not available from my area to her office.

Thanks in advance,

JC_Traveller

Her only real option is to drive. You can either take the Parkway to 78W to 24 into Florham Park, or you can take back roads through Scotch Plains, Westfield, etc. Either way is roughly a 45 minute-1 hour commute, depending on what time of day she needs to go to/from the office.

Thanks BobKovacs!

On the other hand, I was thinking to sublet my rented apt here in avenel and move in to the florham park area, but I could see that florham park is one of the most expensive areas for rented apartment and was thinking some alternative area near her office (4-5 miles away) from where I could catch a train to jersey city (NJTransit till Hoboken and PATH from there). Right now I am considering summit/ madison area and my budget is $1300. I am looking for 1-2 bedroom apartment.

Can anybody suggest / comment on this. Thanks in advance,

Thanks,

JC_Traveller

You will get more for you money north of Florham Park. Look for rentals in Parsippany or Morris Plains (route 10 area).

Default How good is Avenel station to commute to NYC?

HOw good is Avenel station to commute to NYC? I can see NJ Transit train station on the map, but, is there really any train station?
Plus, which are good apartments in that area?
Thanks...

There's not really a "station" in Avenel- it's just a platform. I'd say probably 50% of the trains stop there during the peak hours, with fewer stopping there off-peak. There's no parking lot nearby, so if you're not within walking distance or willing to try and find a spot on the street every day, it's not really an ideal station to commute from. Both Rahway and Woodbridge get far more trains- in fact Rahway gets far more even than Woodbridge, because both the NE Corridor and Corridor-Coast lines stop there.
