Existing NJ statutes & case law won't even allow women to suit for damages in these type of cases, yet this legislator seeks to criminalize the same activity?
Most states, including NJ, have a "heart balm" law, which bans lawsuits for breach of promise to marry, etc. Obviously, these laws were enacted by all-male legislatures, and some courts have tried to bypass them. Here's one website:
The Heart Balm Act abolished the common law right to recover damages for conduct which undermines the conjugal rights associated with marriage, such as the breach of a promise to marry or the tort of alienation of affection | NJ Family Issues

After this proposed legislative hiccup, Troy is now working on a financial improvement bill for NJ's economy and then healthcare reform!

I overheard a convo about this issue yesterday - one of the participants in the convo brought up the same points you did and said, ".....and the biggest lie of all is MAKEUP".

I had to laugh.

I don't have any single men friends at this time but my wife has a few single girlfriends our age (50-60) and they ALL shave a few years off the age on thier on-line dating profiles.

I got a kick out of that when she told me.

And the second biggest lie (pun intended) is a sock with a roll or two of silver dollars.

What hiccup? This was about political positioning & name recognition. Establish yourself in the voters minds as ______________ type of politician with a juicy bill that has no chance of passing, create press with your name attached to it & boom, you've taken the first step to becoming visible statewide.
This is a well established political move utilized by both parties, in every state, at most levels of politics.
