The ferries (Edgewater, Weehawken, Hoboken, JC) all can make commutes well under an hour long door-to-door possible. Taking a bus across the GWB and then the A train down can come in under an hour too. PATH + subway too. Also there are several express bus routes to Bergen County that can do the trick on average, although for that you'd have to budget more time in the morning (and usually get to work early) due to the risk of traffic jams.
It's 100% a doable thing.
The Ferries are some of the best transportation ways to go but the most expensive. Unless you can walk or bike to them, the parking fee is killer. Just to park at the Ferry ports cost $11 a day. Then the fare. You're looking at about $25/day round trip that's more money than commuting from CT which has lower property taxes than NJ.

Are you looking at the train maps and schedules? For example, if you're working near Penn Station, a good train line would be the Morris & Essex (http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/rail/R0040.pdf).
Sayreville would be a nightmare commute -- at least two hours. Google Maps is your friend.
Wildly inaccurate. Sayreville isn't as close as South Orange or Maplewood obviously but barring a disaster it's nowhere near 2 hours. You don't have the slightest clue if you think it takes at least 2 hours.

No? How long does it take, and by what means of transport?
Train next door in South Amboy is typically 55-65 minutes to NY Penn depending on which train you take. Bus to the Port Authority from several spots in Sayreville (including the Cheesequake rest stop on the Parkway) is slightly less than an hour in rush hour.
I get that you need to add time to get from your house to the bus or train as well as time on the back end to get from Penn Station or the Port Authority to the office. But your 2 hour claim is ridiculous unless a train breaks down or there's terrible weather.
