If you're looking for an urban vibe, New Brunswick has that. Look at Spring Street and Hiram Square to start. Also connect with the NJ Young Professionals organization. It's a great place to network. Many of my friends are on that and are your age.
Princeton is nice, too, but I'm not very familiar with the area other than downtown.
I miss NJ - especially central Jersey... :-) I wish I could move back!

The best part about living in Central NJ is that the grime and grit of the city is only a short train ride away.
Ever been to Northern Bergen County? Don't think so.

Central jersey is suburban, buildings with elevators are not common there.
For the money your willing to pay, you could probably rent a whole house there.

Your commute from New Brunswick will be a nightmare and New Brunswick is not a great town. I agree that you should look into towns closer to princeton like lawrence township. You can still take the train into the city or drive to jersey city and take the path. Most places in nj, pa and ny are better than Chicago so I think you'll like it here.

Been there. North Bergen County is a great reason to stay away from that area. Central NJ (anywhere along the Northeast Corridor except Trenton and Newark) is the place to be for a young professional.

Most yuppies, especially single yuppies, live in Hoboken these days. New Brunswick is for college students and for young blue collar workers. If you are looking to eventually get married and have a family, your "talent" pool will be best in Hoboken.
