Then they have to cut wasteful expenditures from the EXECUTIVE/CORPORATE level.

Those "fat-cats" drain much $$$ profit potential from the bottom line.

Honestly is was a long time ago and we were just trying to get up to Montreal to have some fun. what I remember was the train stunk pretty bad and the 14 hours seem to drag on. We made soo many stops and the constant blowing of the horn going through some of those town upstate was nuts. Lets just say the next year we drove up.

Radio Engineer, I've been everywhere from the rooftops of the World Trade Center to Empire to Florida, Ohio, Pennsy, las Vegas, used to work for the big company that flies satellites 23000 miles away. Now I just show up and listen to music and sometimes switch equipment remotely or fix invisible things or equipment that sends out invisible waves.

maybe they need to cut from all levels. people love to blame the fat cats but the reality is for a large organization those few at the top that make big bucks doesnt amount to that much money as a % of their total salaries they pay out. from the little i know of amtrak, i wouldnt think they have any super rich people at the top.
