Hello all and Happy New Year. I am a soon to be college grad that will be working in Wayne, NJ starting in June. I am looking for fun vibrant and diverse areas to live in NJ for a young african American career woman. Any ideas???? Thanks!

Default Black Sister giving response....

Diverse areas in Essex County include: South Orange, Montclair, Maplewood, W.Orange. Clifton is also very diverse. All aren't far from Manhattan. Although the cost of living is more in Essex County than in Passaic County. Frankly, there are fewer black people up near Wayne.

Default I agree

I agree Wayne isn't diverse at all, but depending on what company you work for, neither will your coworkers.

I am the only black person in my department and this is a large company . No one said it would be this lonely after college.

Hey Neekah18,

I know I am responding to this like a year later but thanks for your input. I was hoping an African American would respond to my message because we can relate on the feeling of moving to a predominately white area/job. And you are very right because I too am the only Black person in my department. This stuff is not easy. Anyway, take care and thanks again. :-)
