Where to live? Office in Morristown, Clients in Bergen County, GF works in Edison (Newark: to rent)

So, long story short. My work office is in Morristown for a job I have been working for 1 year (New job had one for 6.5 years before that). I currently live in the Ironbound in Newark and find it is a good central location for my work since my clients are mostly out of Bergen County and I work there 6 months out of the year.
However, myself and the girlfriend are trying to take steps in our life together. We want to move in together and she works in Edison. I have been looking to live somewhere between exits 10 and "0" on 287 to at least give me easy highway access.
We are looking to rent and I have looked at Birch Glen in Piscataway as a strong possibility as a place to live for a semi happy medium.
Any advice or any other places I should look at? I would like to look into buying something next year but I really would like a multifamily or mother/daughter home and they seem to be very overpriced in this area.
