I don't have any first-hand experience of being a first year teacher in NJ (I moved here from another state with 10 years experience and 2 master's degrees in educational specialties)---having said that, when I did move I had 3 interviews immediately and 1 job offer before I even moved from just filling out applications online and sending my resume directly to principals.

I would advise sending your resume and filling out online applications for as many districts as possible--don't just concentrate on a few districts. You may have to take some maternity leave replacements for the first year to get your foot in the door--in NJ tenured teachers can take up to a year of child rearing leave, so these positions are a good way to work regularly and have the district get to know you.

Good luck!

yes, two but then the district doesn't have to keep your particular position--they just have to give you a job somewhere in the district. 1 year leave guarantees your old job. Either way, it's a long leave and a good way for a new teacher to get their foot in the door.
