For retirement and golf fine. For schools not too great. The locals will tell you the schools are fine and most kids get into NC colleges. Not the hotbed of Rhodes scholars but if you like to play or watch basketball NC can be great.

It would be either Coastal Southern Cal or St. Augustine Florida (but more likely Florida because I have family there and taxes). I love heat and I love to be outside to workout, walk etc.

When I win the lottery, I'm going to move to Carmel, CA. In the states, it's one of the nicest places I've lived.

I certainly wouldn't move to NC for the schools, though there are some good districts. The pine trees and beaches reminded me of NJ, so that was a plus.

A much as I dislike cold and snow, I would never choose to live in FL. It's hot... and flat.

New Orleans? Are you looking for humidity and a high crime rate?

I don't know enough about the Shenandoah Valley towns to comment, though I would seriously consider that area. I like Virginia--it's southern, but not too southern.

East coast? Maryland Virginia Florida Easily. Those places offer a much better standard of livin than NJ. I laugh at what people think is wealth in NJ.

That doesn't make any sense to me. Even children, to a degree, understand wealth.

Obviously you've never been to the Somerset hills. Their mansions are so extravagant they hide them from the general public by building them in the center of their 100-200 acre horse farms.
I have no idea about wealth in FL so how could I possible comment.

South Carolina ranks as 6th in the US in the rate of murders per 100,000 people.
By comparison, NJ ranks 22 on that list.

The other states that you mentioned are not too bad (FL=#16 and NC=#18), but the bottom line is that the incidence of violent crimes is higher in the states that you mentioned, in comparison with NJ, and SC is especially violent.

Good to know. I mentioned SC because my company just opened an office in Greenville. I have no plans of relocating right now but it's something to think about later on down the road.

I would consider Savannah GA too. We went there in September and I loved it.
