I really want someone here to take a camera and rive the '45 min' commute everyone is mentioning. What 45 min commute? Please show me. Stop citing no traffic Saturday night commutes into and out of the city. It takes 50 min door to door to drive from JC to the holland tunel/find parking. What 45 min commute are you guys talking about from the burbs to the city? I really want to know, because it muts be the best kept secret
Maybe if you live across the street from the south orange train station and are an usher at MSG.

I can get from Harrison Station to my office at 15th and 8th (not even midtown) in 45 minutes. PATH WTC->E.
I've made it from West Orange to same office in 46 minutes (including elevator ride to coffee machine), though that was a fluke (Car -> NJT Morris&Essex@Orange ->A, a fluke because I caught a train that was running late and made up time)
Avenue@South Orange will get you to a fair bit of midtown (walk->NJT, since the station is right there) in that time, especially if you get a train that skips Newark Broad Street.
Drive, though? Maybe North Bergen right next to the Lincoln Tunnel, and you have to start at 9:30am at the earliest.

Hey, don't quote me! I never said anything about a 45-minute commute. I just said South Orange has an excellent commute when combined with the OP's other requirements. And thirty minutes station-to-station is not half bad.
AvalonBay in Newport/Jersey city is the first thing that comes to mind but their 2BR goes for over $3500. But the commute can't get any better. A 5 min walk to Path station and a 15 min ride to midtown.

AvalonBay uses cheap materials that's why the recent huge fire in Edgewater happened twice to the same location. I would not want to live in any of their mega Apt complex.

I watched them build the Avalon in West Long Branch. Passed it every day. Seems as if they threw it up in two weeks. After the Edgewater fire, I wondered how the residents felt living there.

+1
After that fire in Edgewater, I don't think that most people would put "Avalon" and "safe" in the same sentence unless "not" is inserted before the word "safe".
