One night at a semi-fancy restaurant in Hoboken, my husband and I were sitting down for dinner when we overheard a guy remarked to his date:

"Wow, $50 is cheap for dinner!!" The guy was apparently from NYC and visiting his date in Hoboken.

Is $50 considered cheap for a dinner for two?

If it's a date night with my husband (read: no kids), we usually spend about $70-90 + tip (no wine). We usually go to BYO places. I love bringing my own wine. And yeah, $50 is pretty cheap - unless you're in a diner.

$50 means I spent too much. I'm a total foodie but there is a point of diminishing returns and I've always found that point to be well below $50. JMHO, of course. Average for us is about $30.

$50 for two isn't all that much in most of NJ once you figure in tax and tip, even without any alcohol. That's like a $15 entree per person plus a soda each and maybe a shared dessert.

I know what you mean syncmaster, DH and I spend about $50/week max. on groceries. We make it a point of not spending more than one week's worth of grocery on just one dinner.

$50 is average to us, not cheap by any means, but we try to keep it below that.

I voted for under $50 - but if I spent that much I'd probably divorce my husband because he drank too much beer LOL

A dinner out with me and my gf.... $100 + tip. If they aren't horrible, they get 20% tip, so $120. Voted under $125.

$50 is cheap, IMHO (assuming it's not the local pizza joint, lol).
