We are currently living in Hawaii, and want to come back to the East Coast. We have kids so want good schools, and just a nice friendly area. Does anyone have any thoughts about what Princeton is like?
Thanks.

I loved living in Princeton. But it's expensive. Although, coming from Hawaii, you might not think so.

Yes Hawaii is super expensive, so we're sort of used to that. What kind of things did you like most about Princeton?

I am not sure if you are familar with Princeton but Princeton is one of the wealthiest zip codes in NJ. Princeton is quite small and the University takes up most of it but near the University is the main street with all the high end shops and many restuarants. As a result of all of this, the real estate prices are high but you are buying old world charm which many in the area love. Personally I think Princeton is very nice but I do not think it is worth the price. I feel that the town is too small for the price range. I would rather look up north in the Mendham, Far Hills, Benardsville, and Basking Ridge areas but those are north and that could be a problem for you.

Good luck with your search!

Smile Hello Ch001!

I loved PRINCETON!

It is a quaint, charming, beautiful, friendly place!

You will find popular stores in the town square like Ann Taylor. Quaint coffee shops, lots of beautiful antique shops. Great restaurants without the pretense. The Hotel in the town square has so much history & ambiance, its lovely!

As you probably know, you have PRINCETON UNIVERSITY right there. You

feel the place is a bit preppy & conservative. You will bump into lots of highly

educated people everywhere. Lots of History everywhere you go.

I am not Episcopalian, however I had to go to that Church, it is OLD & so

beautiful! The homes are extremely beautiful, the gardens, the area is

amazing. Having said all of this, since you have some major corporations in

the area, you have Top Corporate Executives living there, as well as all of

the Professors, Scientists, etc. So, its VERY EXPENSIVE! But not as much as

Hawaii.

Its charming, friendly, you do not have the rush rush feel that you have in NYC, its more relaxed! And yet, if you like NYC, you are close enough to go into the city whenever you like, yet far enough to not bother you.

When you are driving around you might hit a DEER crossing the road, they are all around!

And if you like afternoon TEA english style, you will find a couple of places that serve it as well.

So, if money is not an issue, PRINCETON is just RIGHT for you!

GOOD LUCK with your move!

Take care,

Countrylv22

Smile HELLO CHoo1

I forgot to mention something else regarding Princeton in my previous message.

Since the homes & taxes are a bit on the high side (not as high as what you

are used to) supposedly the schools there are very good.

I have relatives that have used the MONTESSORI SCHOOLS

And the one in Princeton is supposed to be one of the BEST! I have driven by

it, and it also looks beautiful from the outside. If I remember correctly it has

openings for babies 8 weeks of age up until Middle School or 8th grade

Their Tel Number is (609) 924-4594 . Another Tel Number for them is

(609) 799-6668

And by the way, when I mentioned about deer crossing the roads, it happens

in the back roads (with a country feel) Not really on the main Street or Road.

And again one of the pluses about living in Princeton , is that you get

that "Old World Charm", a bit of a country feel. Yet, you are so close to New

York City, that if you want to catch a play, or any of the cultural activities

available, you can do that & be out of the City in no time! You get the best

of both worlds!

Good Luck with your move! I think that you will love Princeton!

Princeton is definitely NOT a conservative town, it's very very liberal. Real estate prices there are crazy compared to the surrounding area. I would look at some surrounding towns if you want a bit lower price (north Lawrenceville, Pennington, West Windsor, Plainsboro, Rocky Hill).

I agree, it's NOT conservative. Rather the opposite!

I think Princeton is a great town...one I could easily live in for all the reasons listed above except for one problem....getting there and getting out of there. If I have to spend one more minute sitting on route 206 I will go postal.

Red face Correction

SORRY

Typically places that have a College or University tend to be on the liberal side.

For someone coming from the west coast, when I said PREPPY &

CONSERVATIVE, I meant in the way people dress & look, at least from I have

seen. I did not mean in their political views or way of thinking.

Sorry for the confussion.
