I commute to work weekdays using US 1 South to I-287 North. This puts you in an exit only lane that runs for about 2 miles before the forced exit. I usually get over much sooner than 2 miles regardless of traffic but for whatever reason got close to exit 2B today.
I have seen state troopers parked on the grass on the exit pretty frequently. I guess I clipped the solid white line while merging and got flagged to pull over. Got questioned why I rode an exit only lane and got off "easy" with a $54.00 ticket. This was 8 AM and there were four other cars flagged there too.
Major WTF moment for me. This is akin to ticketing anyone who's tires are past the stop line. I definitely exited late but barely touched the shoulder. $54.00 would normally not be worth fighting but this makes me feel violated.
Is anyone familiar with this trap of sorts? I didnt even sign anything, the ticket was all printed with no writing. The court is Edison municipal. As long as there is no risk of fees or harsher penalties (I would never argue with cops given their power) I plan to make a court date.
I take the same route from exit 1 for almost 10 years now. I usually leave between 7:30-8:00 and never had a problem. Only a few times have I ever noticed a cop sitting there.
What was the ticket for? There should be a title 39 code number on it somewhere, you can look it up online to see if its points bearing.
I think today (yesterday by now) was a ticket day. I saw several speed traps and cops looking to rob somebody, much more so than any regular day driving to work. I still firmly believe none of us voted to allow cops to bug anybody for driving, but I know,,,good luck with that. Who the H signed off on allowing cops to write any tickets or have anything to do with driving? That is not police work.
