Was asking around and checking out the real estate in Middletown. It seems that a lot of people are leaving the area and it's only 'somewhat' desirable for those who commute to the city, which is a main selling point. The houses in the 500-600k mark look very nice, I am surprised that anything would be that nice this close to the city.

it's not exactly close, commute times are about 90 minutes, the taxes are high and the schools are just average
Thank you, I agree after seeing the Tax reports on some homes.
And the cost of the ferry is just UNREAL. Well over 1000$ a month per PERSON traveling to the city is just uncalled for. I couldn't imagine me and my wife spending 25000$ a year to commute to the city, that is just uncalled for.

while the ferry is expensive it doesn't cost over $1k a month, a monthly ticket is a round $650 or so, and if you cannot afford or justify the cost of the ferry commute you do have other options like the train or buses
The Best way to Commute from Middletown is the Train. My friend's husband always took that . $650 a month is crazy!

I agree that the ferry is expensive and is not for everyone but if you value your time and can afford the cost the ferry is by far the fastest and most comfortable, I can leave my house and in under an hour be at my business near wall st, that includes driving to the pier and walking to the office, there is no way any other mode of travel can top that.
In the 25 years I've lived in the area I've used the train a handful of times, each time it wasn't much fun, YMMV
Taxes are high but you can leave you're doors open at night. MIddletown is the best in nj. you pay for what you get and you get alot
