My husband commutes to the city from Nutley and his commute averages is 60-75 minutes. He takes DeCamp from the 4 corners stop to Port Authority then takes the subway up to 84th and Broadway. In the a.m. the buses travel in the "bus lane" until 10, and it really goes quite quickly. It seems Friday nights coming home are always longer, like 1 1/2 hours. But many nights he has gotten home in a little less than an hour! The worst part for him is waiting for the bus in the a.m. Sometimes he can wait for 15 minutes. If he really wants to get in quick, he drives to Clifton Commons, parks in the commuter lot and then catches either DeCamp or NJ Transit, whichever comes first, on Route 3.

Thank you, iagirl!
60-75min is just the bus ride or door-to-door?
Looks like traffic starts to build up after 7.30-8am and after 5pm? Is this right?
Nutley's a great location. Close enough to Manhattan, has a predominant Italian influence. Right next to Montclair and several major highways, GSP, Rt 3, Rt 21, Rt 7, etc.

That's door-to-door. As far as when the traffic starts to build, I'm not sure. He's usually heading into the city between 8-8:30 and it's slow then. He usually is coming out of the city anywhere from 4:30 - 6:30 and it usually takes about the same amount of time, give or take 15 minutes (there are of course the freaky stuck in the tunnel for an hour ordeals but that has happened to him twice in 5 years). If he's coming home after about 7:00, it's about an hour door to door.
We've toyed with the idea of moving further west but neither of us can give up his commute.
I am commuting from Nutley to NYC and was wondering the best option. Seems silly to take the train and wait in Newark when a bus can take the express lane. I also wanted to see if anyone had any insight on "Park and Ride" as it seems like a feasible option.
Anyone who says that Nutley is an "easy access" area is eithet the typical Nutley resident who has never left Nutley in 50+years, born and raised and very ignorant of anything of the Watchung Mountain where it resides, or they are just "suburbanites". It very sheltered and has zero city influence, and the Delawanna train is the suburban "Bergen Main" to Secaucus, then you have to transfer AGAIN to NYC. You're better off moving to more urban areas, like Paterson-Fairlawn, where Eastside Paterson Extension has access to the Urban Line in the Radburn and Broadwsy Districts of Fairlawn, or Garfield-Wallington, which has stops in Plauderville and Garfield Districts on the Urban Linr. 4 urban zone stops on the train, then you cruise through the Nutley area suburbs to Hoboken and get off, then walk 50ft to the PATH. Don't waste your time with Nutley, it is boring, lame, and ranks horrible in NJs adult intelligence and culture report. Nutley tries to keep outsiders out, and in order to do that, you cannot have access to the outside from within
