We recently came upon the Summit neighborhood in Morris Township during our house hunt and fell in love. How are the elementary/middle/high schools? What's the parking situation for NYC commuters? Crime? Demographics? Any help would be appreciated!

Schools are good through middle school, but then I suspect that most people in the Summit neighborhood send their hids to private high school. Morristown High School has some issues, while it has plenty of fans too.

Commuting parking - I assume you mean train? Morris Plains is closest, but you need to be there by about 6:45 in order to get a spot. otherwise, some more parking avaialable in the newer parking garages in Morristown.

That area is also very safe. You can chack a site (such as citydata!) for demographics.

It's basically in the area between Ketch, Hanover and Lake roads. Kinda McMansions, but it's probably 20+ years old so the trees/landscaping are all nicely mature.

HalfFull - thanks for your input!
Any thoughts about the Summit area? Is it a good neighborhood to raise kids? How far is shopping and such? Any other similar neighborhoods?

Got it - on the other side of W Hanover near Greystone. Nice area. Thanks!

Our first house was just outside the Summit in and older neighborhood of MUCH smaller homes, but we'd take walks through the Summit with baby stroller. Nice folks generally (one nice couple gave my mom a ride home when she got caught in a rain shower while walking with our toddler).

Seem like a nice spot to raise kids. Shopping is relatively near-by in Morris Plains, Morristown, or Route 10.

Butterworth is another very nice area of Morris Twp.

Morris Township is an excellent community to live in. The schools re very highly rated - including the high school. In recent years Morristown High has sent more grads to Ivy League schools than some more highly rated private schools. The district does have a diverse population but that's probably closer to real life than many other schools. The Normandy Park elementary school has a very desirable special program (sorry I don't know the formal name) that students have to apply for entrance - and it's competitive.
The community is larger than most people realize (the Summit is in the NW corner of town). The taxes are very reasonable when compared to other full service towns in Morris County - though homes in the Summit are higher than average as their value is higher than average.
Train service is available from Morris Plains and Morristown (the next station ease is Convent Station which is also Morris Township).
Shopping is convenient with some small shops in Morris Plains and Morristown. The closest malls are in Livingston and Short Hills but there are many chain and smaller stores along the Rt. 10 corridor east and west of the Summit.
You could stop by Town Hall and get some information (50 Woodland Ave - on the east side of town) or the Morris County Visitors' Center (Court St., Morristown). Good luck!
