I believe these are based on distance but if your home falls equally apart from two schools then would you have a chance to pick the "better" school.

Are the two schools in the same district?

If you are out of the feeding zone for that school, there is normally a process to request a placement in a different school within the same district. Its not automatic, and needs to be approved (Normally, Deadline is around end of December for the next school year) , and you need a good reason for why you want it.

In addition to what flyonpa stated, the OP needs to be aware that--if approval is granted--the parent would be responsible for providing transportation. They are not going to create a new school bus route for this one exception to the rule.

Thanks. I do understand about the transportation. I was going to drive to the school for drop off and pick up anyway. It's just that the other school is faster because of less traffic.

The problem is that both of you mention that I need a good reason. I don't think I have one because I'm guessing it has to be something big like getting bullied at the other school or something like that.

Keep in mind your "Local" school your home feeds to also make up your child social network, If s/he is going to a school cross town, they will have no school friends in the neighborhood, and the kids may exclude your child from Street activities because they go to the "Other" school. There also maybe school rivalry that could cause problems.

I doubt they would approve a move do to "traffic". Bulling would not do it much ether unless its been documented as on going for months or years to your child, Moving to different school actually may make it worse, as they are a outsider, with out a neighborhood safety net that might be around to help.
