I notice some commuters are just show their tickets using my their smartphones. I'm thinking about buying my monthly ticket on my smartphone now. This way I wont go through pulling out my wallet all the time. I'm usually on my phone anyway. Is this NJ Transit app good?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...transit.njtapp

It's received some bad reviews so I'm wondering.

Can you tell me the benefit of this? Just one.

Call me old-fashioned, but I buy paper tickets, put them on my seat, and snooze off.

It's meant for monthly passes. You always have it as long as you have your phone AND don't have to spend time stopping at the ticket machine.

Not a huge deal, but some people like that convenience and have so much of their life on their phones already.

Problem is it only works when you have a data connection. So unless you have Verizon you're going to be out of luck in Penn Station and the tunnel and have to beg the conductor to come back when you have a connection.

Yeah, I've seen this occur to passengers near me. This is what I'm concerned about since I have T-Mobile.

Saves me the trouble of having to stand on line to buy paper tickets and potentially miss the train I was rushing to make (or face the on-board purchase penalty). So yeah, I'm a fan.

The OP is talking about a monthly, not single ride tickets.

For single ride tickets (one ways), why not just buy an extra or two? That's what I do. But I board at a very quiet suburban station and arrive in plenty of time to buy tickets.

It's great! I use it everyday. Don't have to go fishing around for your ticket. You can buy it on the train( comes in handy even for monthlys). You can even use multipay on the app (for transit checks and credit card). Once a ticket is activated you don't need a data connection. Doesn't cost anything and simplifies the commute, no brainier.
