I would worry less about freight train, commuter train noises are much more annoying.

Noise is a factor but I would be more concerened about the exhaust from burning the diesel. If the trains are frequent, I would not want to inhale the fumes every days. Especially if you have kids.

I would have absolutely no problem living right next to an electric train that had no grade crossings nearby.
